Jacobs Ladder

In Falmouth, Cornwall at the top of 111 steps there lies a pub and inn named after the steps: Jacobs Ladder. Last year they wanted a little revamp of their brand with a new logo and menus.

The logo

Falmouth is a coastal town in Cornwall with a lot of maritime history which is still relevant today. The town’s beautiful coastline, maritime bonds and charming character attracts tourists from all over the world, and their authenticity and local charm is deeply embedded.

When creating Jacobs Ladder’s new logo this was important to keep in mind, the old pub’s history as well as the town’s was crucial to preserve.

The simple monogram of J & L creates an anchor to signify the town’s maritime importance, with a backdrop of the steps leading up to the pub we created a simple seal which stands well on its own but also sits well on the pub’s full name and location.

Menus

When creating the menu layout for Jacobs Ladder it was important this was a simple layout that would work for many different types of menus as they have different menus and offers depending on days and holidays.

I designed a template for them to use as they required, giving all of their menus the same hierarchy and layout, simply emblazoned with the logo on top and in combination with the typography it became a solid messenger of the new visual identity.
